My name is Jason Sammut. I am a positive person. It’s always been my nature and it definitely didn’t change when I had the accident. When I was a teenager I suffered a high-level spinal cord injury, leaving me paralyzed from the shoulders down. When some friends and family came to see me initially after the accident, and started crying, I found myself in the odd position of comforting them.

I graduated from Baruch magna cum laude with an Accounting degree, but still haven’t found how I fit into the world of employment. Living with my disability is horribly frustrating but I don’t let that frustration overcome me.

I was born, raised, and currently live in New York City, in the Gramercy/Murray Hill area of Manhattan. I love the city life. With my mobility issues, living in a central, bustling location is essential. Being out and about enjoying what the city offers invigorates me.

The hardest aspect of living with my disability is being dependent on people. Yet I remain hopeful and resilient.
